2012 Albert Park Rowing Club Oral History Project

2012-56ers-morning-tea-4-1200In 2012, Grace interviewed Life Members of the Albert Park Rowing Club to record their memories of rowing in the post-war era.

This was an exciting time for Albert Park, with the Club providing six members for the 1956 Olympic rowing squad and the Club building new clubrooms on Aughtie Drive.

Grace interviewed a number of key club members, including:

  • Bob Duncan, Don Christie and Max Shaw on rowing in the 1950s
  • Ian Allen on the 1956 Melbourne Olympics
  • Bob Duncan and Don Christie on Club President, Alec McLiesh

The project was held in conjunction with a celebration to welcome back the 1956 Olympians who had traveled to the UK for the 2012 London Olympics.  These stories have been used to provide detailed information about the Club’s history, as well as for genealogical research.
